SAKE WEEK 2023 1 week, 9 cities and over 100 events

The third Sake Week connects Japan with organizers and gastronomers internationally.

• In the extended week from October 1st to October 9th, 2023, for the first time, over 100 events dedicated to Japanese Sake will take place in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Bratislava, Bad Salzuflen, Knonau near Zurich, Basel, and Hot Springs (USA).

• On October 1st, "World Sake Day," the event week will be officially opened at Schoppe Brauerei & Schankhalle at Pfefferberg Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg by the Sake Embassy Germany e.V.

• Esteemed master brewers from Japan will be visiting Germany for the first time during the Sake Week.

The internationalization of Sake Week continues with its third edition. After the platform format started in Berlin in 2021, more and more Sake professionals from other cities and regions come together and collaborate with the central organizer, Sake Embassy Germany e.V. "It's not about hosting as many events as possible, but rather about inspiring other event organizers, restaurateurs, and sake enthusiasts to come together during a designated week of the year to showcase sake, as well as shochu and other Japanese spirits," says Alexander van Hessen, President of Sake Embassy Germany e.V. The initiative always kicks off on October 1st, known as "World Sake Day," which marks the start of sake production in Japan.

In Berlin, on this day, invited guests from the restaurant industry, business, politics, and the agency world will launch the event week together at Schankhalle Pfefferberg. They will celebrate the obvious connections between German beer brewing and Japanese sake brewing. Tours of the local Schoppe Bräu facility are sure to pique the interest of not only the Japanese guests but also the local community. For the first time, Japanese brewmasters from Japan will be visiting, eagerly anticipating the exchange with the local gastronomy.

In the following days, countless events, tastings, workshops, and special sake offerings at restaurants, bars, and shops will offer a diverse program for all sake enthusiasts in various cities. Through collaboration with the Konomi Festival Basel & Network, as well as the Sake Week Vienna, there will be the most diverse program not only in Berlin but also in Basel and Vienna.
