SAKAGURA Tour 2025

An unforgettable journey into the world of sake - Sakagura Tour February 2025

This year's Sakagura Tour to Japan was an experience full of fascinating impressions, profound insights and of course exquisite pleasures. From the artful production fo sake to unforgettable culinary experiences - this trip showed us once again why sake is much more than just a drink: it is culture, craft and passion at the same time.

Insight into the art of sake - visiting outstanding breweries

Our trip took us to some of Japan's most renowned sake breweries: NANBU BIJIN, YUKI NO BOSHA, NINKI, NIIDA, URAKASUMI, MASUIZUMI and IWA. Each of these breweries has its own philosophy, its unique methods and of course its signature sake creations. It was impressive to see how much dedication and precision goes into the work here - from traditional manufacturing processes to modern innovations.

What was particularly exciting was that we were not only allowed to passively observe, but also actively participate. We helped cool the freshly steamed rice, prepare the mash and distribute the valuable koji powder, which is essential for fermentation. This direct contact with the production process made us feel even more intensely the deep craftsmanship behind every drop of sake.

A look beyond the brewery

In addition to the breweries, we had the privilege of visiting a Sugi forest - an impressive experience. The wood of the Sugi cypress is traditionally used for the production fo sake barrels and, in certain methods, gives the sake its characteristic taste. The connection between nature and craftmanship was particularly noticeable here and showed once again how closely sake production is interwoven with the Japanese landscape.

Culinary highlights - Sake & Fine Dining

Of course, the right culinary experience couldn't be missing from our trip. From the highest quality Wagyu A5 to perfect sushi in the best restaurants, the combination of first-class Japanese cuisine and exquisite sake was simply unforgettable. Every bite, every glass was a harmonious interplay of taste, texture and aromas that further deepened our enthusiasm for Japanese culinary culture.

Thanks to our hosts

We are eternally grateful for the warm hospitality we received on this trip. Every brewery, every place and every encounter has inspired us and broadened our horizons. Sake is not just a drink - it is an attitude to life, an expression of centuries-old tradition and at the same time a window into the future.

With these wonderful memories, we are already looking forward to our next Sakagura trip. Who knows what secrets of sake we will then discover?
